My keys fell in the the heater vent on my dash. It's a 1985 ford Ltd midsize ford. I have tried using a flexible magnet form the top (defrost) with no success. Down on the floor, it was suggested to go on the passenger side near the hump of the transmission and put the flex magnet in through there. No luck. Any new ideas.?

The last time I looked, I thought keys were made of brass........ which is NOT MAGNETIC. Your flex magnet won't pick them up. You'd be better off fishing for them with a coat hanger or length of electrical wire. You might be able to hook them, or at least get them to fall down to a lower part of the vent, where you could take it apart and get them.

You'll have to fish them out with a wire or take the dash/heater apart to retrieve them---you might get away with drilling a good size one inch hole in the ductwork to get at them and then tape over the hole with aluminum foil tape like they use for household ducts. Try to figure out how the dash vent ductwork is situated and molded to see where they may have rested up.

Try pulling off the defroster hoses first and shake them.

If there is no way to retrieve your keys by any methods then you might have to change the ignition switch getting it either from the dealer or from the wrecking yard.

You will have to pull off the plastic around the steering column and replace the switch.

Make sure you get the keys..

Keys are made from brass or older Ford keys were aluminumn so your magnet is not gonna work. You're gonna have to take apart the dash.
