There are several things you can do to make your computer run faster. First of all, I'd recommend buying more RAM. Make sure you buy RAM that's compatible with your motherboard though, and check that you have a RAM slot available. If you're not too skillful with computer hardware, ask somebody who knows to check for you.

If you don't want to open up your computer or spend any money, there's a lot of other things you can do instead. When a hard drive is filled with data, it all gets cluttered around and can slow your computer down. If you defragment your hard drive, it will reorganise the data on your hard drive and speed it up. (This will not change any of the files or folders.) To do this, go to My Computer, right-click your hard drive, go to Properties and then Tools.

If you surf the Internet a lot, you may not suspect it, but there's often a lot of malicious software that can really slow down your computer - without you even realising it's there! I'd recommend getting a spyware/adware scanner, and a separate virus scanner. I've heard good things about Spybot for spyware, but I'd get Adaware and use the free version. It's very good at removing both adware and spyware and speeding up your system. Download AVG to scan for viruses - it's free too!

Make sure your graphics/video card drivers are installed. I can't really help you with this, but you'll find plenty of guides for driver installation if you use a search engine. If you know what model it is, go to the manufacturer's website and get the setup files from there. Of course, the drivers might be all okay. This is just something to check out. Maybe your computer's just a little outdated? If so, time for an upgrade!

If you find out your computer's completely crippled and you can't do anything, back up your data, reformat your hard drive, and reinstall a fresh Windows XP.

Hard training. Do not let it have any rest between boot ups. And shouting helps. At the computer that is as I have found shouting at the dog or the wife counter productive.
