One of the amazing thing about sport is that the rules, arena and equipment are ideal for the sport in question. Think of baseball. If the bases were a yard more or less apart it would be a completely different game. A soccer ball in the NFL? A rugby ball at the World Cup? A cricket ball at Wimbledon? No. Things are just fine the way they are.

It does depend on what shape you mean that sinks instantly? The ship has a large surface that touches the water. This will spread the weight of the material over the area thus the pressure is reduced. Ultimately the force pressing down from the boat (gravity) is equal to the force pressing up by the water(upthrust) which means it will float and not sink down.

You couldn't play baseball with a golf ball. Or tennis with a base ball. Imagine playing tennis with a base ball. It'd ruin your racket and you wouldn't be able to hit that ball much further than a few feet. Tennis balls are made to bounce, and bet his by the rackets and stuff.

because they take different types of punishment. for example a baseball takes a LOT more wear than a football. that's why before every game there are lots more of them than footballs. you don't see many footballs go in the stands. but balls can come apart and they wear out faster. baseballs don't have to perform in winter, so the football is designed to take the cold in fall and winter.

Imagine hitting a ping pong ball with a baseball bat. Imagine trying trying to punt a ball that is solid (like a baseball) instead of one filled with air. 'Nuff said.

in my opinion a football and a ping pong ball have their certain differences for reasons.for instance its kinda hard to smack a piece of pig skin across a table, just as hard as it is trying to find the running back with the little white ball, and if that by some miracle you do find him and tackle him,you will smush the poor little ball
