For *rock*, Squeeze, The Police, Nirvana & Alice in Chains are way up there for me.

Though I don't know if tchnically, Squeeze & The Police count. Both boths were HUGE in the 80s, yes, but debuted in the 70s....

Well for popular rock I would say the police but for Prog Metal def Dream Theater

The Stones, if you're talking about 60's bands that are still around. If you're talking about 60's sounding bands, then I'd vote for XTC/The Dukes Of Stratosphere.
