well, depending on the care taker, it can be from a few days to many MANY years (like, 20) mine that i had didn't live very long because the humidity was off, or it wasn't warm enough or something. i gave up with them because they are VERY picky. if you plan on having hermit crabs as pets, they are great pets, they are really fun to bathe..hehehe..good times..anyways!! if you do get them, visit EVERY hermit crab website you possibly can!!!!! get EVERYTHING it tells you to get and don't skimp out on ANYTHING!!!! dead hermit crabs are not fun :[

Some hermit crabs might get in fights with other hermit crabs over shells and could possibly die, so always keep extra shells. Without shell fights a hermit crab treated properly can live to be 15 years old!

Hermit crabs are highly entertaining and can live up to 20 years in captivity.
