Start taking L-Lysine (500-1000mg) four times per day. Dab the cold sore with Tea Tree Oil frequently throughout the day -- being sure to throw away whatever you used as a dabber and to not re-use it. (A q-tip works well.) Those two things will work very quickly. The L-Lysine will help your body fight the cold sore and will heal you from within; while the Tea Tree Oil will fight the infection and heal from the outside. Good luck!

If you want to get rid of them forever I would use natures sunshine VSC. People are sceptical but I have never met a person that used it that has a cold sore or fever blister.

For immediate relief -
Lysine cream: Apply topically to lesions twice a day or as recommended on label.
Zinc lozenge: let it dissolve on the lesion.
For Prevention -
Avoid arginine-rich foods, including chocolate, peanuts and other nuts, seeds, and cereal grains.
Supplements recommendations -
lactobacillus acidophilus: 3 caps/day, one with each meal.
L-lysine: 3,000 mg/day; 1,000 mg. with each meal at the first sign of a cold sore outbreak. After the symptoms lessen, reduce intake to 500 mg / day. If you break out on this dosage, increase your dosage to 1000 mg a day to prevent recurrence.
Zinc: 50 mg /day.
Vitamin C with bioflavonoids: 500 mg /day.

L-Lysine tablets daily for prevention. There is also an L-Lysine ointment that I have used. It works very well. As soon as I feel a coldsore coming on I use the ointment. Sometimes it actually stops the coldsore from appearing and sometimes it does appear but is very small and gone in a couple days. Here's the brand I use:

Well, I find that if you caught it early, chewing garlic really seems to help. I found on the internet this stuff that was amazing. It is called Doctor's Cold Sore Solution which nipped it in the bud immediately. It isn't garlic. I don't know what it is, but it works so well. Amazing stuff. I wouldn't be without it.
