A researcher wants to find out wether there is a difference in the mean systolic bp of 40 yr old males and females. A random group of 40 yr olds were tested:

samle size 15 10
mean systolic bp 132 127
standard of deviation 10 5
at the 0.10 level of signifigance, do the results indicate a difference btw. male and female systolic blood pressure?

I don't know how to figure out which formula to use...

Calculated t-value, t = (X1bar - X2bar)/[Sp√((1/n1)+(1/n2))]
Where Sp is the pooled standard deviation.
The pooled variance Sp² = [(n1-1)S1² +(n2 - 1)S2²]/(n1+n2 - 1)
= [14(10)²+9(5)²]/(23) = 70.65 and Sp = √70.65 = 8.4
So Calculated t = (132 - 127)/[8.4√(1/15)+(1/10)] = 1.457
Because 1.457 < 1.714, the hypothesis of equality cannot be rejected and conclude that there's no statistical proof that there's a difference.
