UNCA(sheville) is a wonderful school. I actually taught there and I can recommend it unequivocally. While Appalachian State may be garnering attention for it's recent football accomplishments, I know the tennis program at UNCA is very competitive and very good.

As a school, UNCA is a very liberal arts-based institution. The atmosphere of Asheville (the city) and its connection to the university are very vibrant, upbeat, and progressive. The school itself has a very active social scene in connection with the downtown environment. I would liken this area to the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, but UNCA has more social aspects given that Asheville is a very artsy, musical, and outdoorsy area.

I hope this helps! Good luck.

Very nice area. Campus is one of the smaller of the UNC network. Excellent climate. It's right on the southern edge of the Smokey Mountains.

I went to school 15 miles from there.
