We have an apartment housing inspection this week. What does that entail. Apartment is fairly clean, but I would like to know what they do and what we can do to make it even better. they are doing this complex wide not just ours. I would think that it is a yearly thing, but any help would be appreciated

Have to disagree with some of the posters here as my son and daughter in-law has had this happen to them. Yes they are going to look not only for problems but cleanliness, make sure your kitchen and bathroom are well kept and clean. Have the place looking prim and proper. This is most times done if receiving assistance from the government,, or rent subsidies.

Usually, the apartment housing inspection is for safety purposes, not to see if you're maintaining the property and keeping it clean. They'll look for lead-based paint, overloaded electric plugs, dirty or unsafe furnace/ac filters, unlit pilot lights on water heaters or ranges, torn carpet which could cause a fall, the presence of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, etc. In most cases, it's the landlord who must do the repairs or improvements rather than the tenant.

They are looking for any potential damages or anything (like leaks) that can cause future damages. I hold inspections on my ;properties once a yr.
It is in your best interest to have a clean apt also. If they are having a problem with roaches or any other insects, seeing your apt will give them an idea where they are coming from.

Did they tell you the purpose for this inspection? Is it to see which units need new carpet, interior painting, etc?

I never lived in an apt. where ANYONE entered my unit unless I reported something as broken, so I don't know what they're looking for.
