I do...it has nothing to do with the way Gagne has performed either...I just think Gabbard is a great young arm and I wanted the Red Sox to keep him...I honestly don't think the Red Sox needed Gagne and the only reason they got him was to keep him from the Yankees...that being said I am not in the Red Sox front office and they (hopefully) know more than I do about the situation and I will trust they made the right move and that it pays off.

Do I feel bad about it? No, it sounded like a good move. Did I like it? NO WAY! I didn't think that Gagne was a good move prior to the season (and the Red Sox agreed) and he's not one now. We gave up WAY too much to get him, David Murphy, Kason Gabbard, and one minor leaguer plus paid Gagne an extra $3 mil? Nice to have money, but let's spend it on things that work. Lucky for them the kids on the farm have helped.

Don't be surprised if Gagne is left off the playoff roster.

I don't really think it is all that much of a trade for either team. Yeah Gabbard is a good young pitcher, but I don't see him doing anything all that great. Gagne will help when he is needed, but he isn't anything special either. Both teams go rent a players. Kind of like the Willy Mo for Bronson Arroyo trade, Willy Mo never worked out, and Bronson isn't doing too hot nowadays. This trade won't effect either team in two years. The sox have enough starters that they didn't need Gabbard, so they went out and got another bullpen arm that has the potential to put them over the top. Gagne hasn't done that, but he still could help in the playoffs, and the one less starter gave young guys like Buchholtz the chance to step in here and there and hey pitch NO HITTERS! I like the Red Sox rotation now that it has settled down. Having Lester as your fifth starter is something I can TOTALLY live with, he is great.

It's a shame he was struggling so bad when he first got to Boston, but he's a great reliever.

If you believe in conspracy theories, they wanted Gagne to make sure the yanks couldn't get him and save their miserable bullpen.

The Red Sox want Papelbon in the rotation, so if they decide to keep Gagne next year, he'll be the new closer.

With the rotation looking like this:

Beckett, Matsuzaka, Papelbon, Lester, Wakefield

I do. I really like Kason Gabbard and was sad to see him go. He has come a long way this year and is a very good pitcher! Gagne on the other hand....Well, I hope he can get it together and be productive again.

That trades done and over with! I miss Eric but we needed someone like Gabbard to come along. I can understand if they didn't like it since Gagne didn't do well at the beginning but thats baseball. They can trade him if they want to.

I think Gagne will help down the road into the playoffs

Let's see. The Red Sox traded a young lefty with years ahead of him for a rented reliever who turns out not to be at all reliable, who will be a free agent in 7 weeks and is represented by Scott Boras. What is not to feel bad about?

no.

gabbard is a good pitcher, but the sox already have superior younger talent thats major league ready (lester/bucholz)

gagne has been tipping his pitches, batters have been able to see what he's going to throw before he even lets the ball go. they sox pitching coach has been working with him on it and he hasn't given up a run in his last 4 appearances.

Beckett till at least 2009
Dice-K till 2012
Lester till at least 2009
Buckholtz at least 2010
Not to mention that 2 of their top 5 prospects are all starters and that the club has unlimited options for Wakefield (they can keep him till he feels like retiring, I know its weird)
Basically, their rotation is locked up for the next two seasons so why in the world would they need Gabbard who had the least potential of all the prospects?
