My peers can be quite uncommunicative. Dad's even worse - he doesn't talk to me normally and would usually shut himself off by watching TV or reading newspaper at home. And my peers - especially the ones who play lots of sport - usually don't communicate much and express their true feelings. As a sentimental, rather emotional guy I feel quite frustrated by this trend. What's wrong with guys nowadays?

i'm having exactly the same problem with one of my friends just now too. athletic type, popular, all round cool-guy, really.

the reason they don't show any emotion is eithe a) because they are too cool to and showing emotion may damage their street cred or b) they don't want to show emotion for some reason or another...perhaps something has genuinely happened to result in it.

stand by them and just be yourself. talk to them about it if need be, that's what i'm planning on doing. often people dont realise how much their "emotional actions" (or lack of) can affect those who care about them.

try not to worry about it, there are plenty of guys who ARE communicative, perhaps trying to branch out your friendship group to people like them could help.

people change, and we move on. it hurts. it sux. but we do it.

good luck mate. :)

Part of it has to do with homophobia. If a man acts too chummy right away with another guy, he might be thought of as interested in something other than friendship. I think that's why men take so much longer to be friends with other men than women do with each other or men do with their platonic lady friends.

The longer men are around each other though, the less likely they tend to be like this.

I've found that most men behave this way. However, after a while (in fact after a great while) one of the guys seems to open up a bit more and real communication begins -- as friends or as workmates. Almost always, one guy does this first -- he takes a risk, so to speak. The other guy might not exactly communicate at that same level right away, but the process of a deeper male/male friendship begins at that point. (As long at there is no outright rejection.)

Stanley, what you have observed is a way men have learned to protect themselves in a very social environment -- especially from other men who know about the friendship between two guys.

Who knows... It is difficult really. But it is our season, the reasons humanity has discovered to make us keep to ourselves. There are much things to do alone, communication isn't always so wanted. And the stress.... I can really find a thousand reasons! Imagine, if humans discover a device that allows us to read each oher's mind, then we won't need to talk! Isn't this spooky?

mmmhh....... good question. I don't exactly know the reason, but all I know is you cannot force them. You can let them know outright that communication is important for you, that might help, but if they don't respond, then I guess there isn't much you can do, the ball is on their side of the field.
