Let f(x)=3x+2 and g(x)=5x-8. Find all values of x for which f(x)>g(x).

The books answer says {xlx <5} or (- infinity, 5)

f(x) > g(x)

3x+2 > 5x-8

2 + 8 > 5x - 3x

10 > 2x

5 > x

x < 5

that's my answer...

3x + 2 > 5x - 8
10 > 2x
2x < 10
x < 5

try 4 3x4 + 2 = 14 5x4-8 =12

Set it up as an inequality.

3x+2>5x-8

subtract 3x from both sides

2>2x-8

add 8 to both sides

10>2x

divide both sides by 2

5>x
