I would hate to have to make the call on this one as these are such good answers.

The ways mentioned here have a factor in them that will develop character for good or evil or some of both. Example-trials-that can make us bitter or better, draw us closer to God or away from Him. etc. The scary part is in the free will God has given man to make the choices. A small decision can change the entire course of our lives.

Character is built through hardship, challenge, tribulation, upsetting circumstances and personal challenges. It's a matter of testing personal ethics, beliefs, relationships and responsibilities.

By learning from your mistakes and not repeating them.

By treating others the way you want to be treated.

By making personal sacrifices regarding things you want especially when you cannot afford them(living within your means).

By giving (your time, your energy, your attention) to another especially when you don't feel like it.

By looking beyond the moment to the future and then deciding if this decision you are about to make will be something you will regret.

By exposing yourself to a wide range of situations, people, places and interests. Outdoor holidays are great for character building, getting into situations where you HAVE to work together helps you discover your real self.

my mom always said it's like building a sand castle...you keep throwing sand on top, it takes a lot of work, and you see very little until you can stand back and appreciate it! once you can appreciate it, you get to see all the details that you didn't realize there were earlier and appreciate it even more.

Carefully!

... I believe God is holding His blue-print in one hand and is lovingly controlling events and cicumstances with His other hand, to the end that He sees the image of His dear Son in ourselves. x
