No, they use a battery heater & oil heater, plugged in overnight.

Most vehicle batteries are made to start up in very cold conditions. What is important is the cranking power of the battery. Also like myself, if its going to be very cold I put the battery charger on overnight to keep it charging and it warms up the battery a little. Just hope that the caribou don't come through the night and kick the cables off. Or worst, a polar bear looking for midnight snacks trip over the extension cord.LOL

I have one car parked outside and another garaged. I unhook the terminals of the battery of the car parked outside. I began doing this, when the frigid weather caused the car horn to go off continuously , when we weren't home and the EPA gave us a ticket for noise pollution.

Nope. We don't need them in southern Ontario, but in places where this becomes a problem you can get a thing called a "block heater" that just plugs in overnight. It keeps your engine warm, so that it will start first try. And most parking lots in extremely cold climates have electrical outlets at each parking space, where you can plug your block heater in.

No, you do not. It is a good idea to get a good winter battery before the cold season, but once it is installed, you don't need to touch it again.
