Best to have it checked out compression, over look if rusty, or paint spray all over the hose & clamps than it has time on it>The hour meter tells how much time the engine has been used an for $30. you can put another 1 in>?

Boats are not like cars. First make sure that the engine maintenance is up to date. The hours of an engine generally play a part. Make sure the oil is changed regularly. For boats, the common thing is 1000 hours for Salt Water cooled, and 2000-3000 hours for a well maintained Fresh Water cooled engine. Those hours are like miles on a car. The more hours above those amounts the more likely you will have to do major maintainance. So beware.

same as mileage on your car. the more hours indicate more usage. like a car, and more critical is maintainance. out in a boat there are no service shop. towing by a towing company is very expensive( 300 to 600)dollars for a few miles.

common sense. 25 is far less than 1000. you don't need to buy one with over 300 hours unless you're prepared to overhaul or change out an engine.
