Were all men free? Did coal miners send their children to college? Did the average working person own their own home? Was the USA a world power with the strongest economy in the world?
The answer to these questions is no. Capitalism and the free market did not shape this country alone. Liberal reforms of the system did. To some of us liberal does not equate to socialism. Some of us still believe in equal opportunity, not equal outcome a socialistic agenda.
Before you dismiss all liberals as communists, consider the events that shaped this nation.

Joe Biden in 08.

The point you made is true. SOME of you are not socialists. The problem is that MOST of you are. Your party has been hijacked by the loopy left, just the way the Republican Party was hijacked by the religious right for a few years.

It wasn't that great. I am part of the second generation of my Southwest Virginia family to not have someone working in the coal mines. I still have a coin (mine script) from my great-great grandfather's company store, which he operated for one of the big coal mining firms. A college education wasn't even a dream for those generations and is still a bit of stretch in that part of America.

But now in fairness, the reforms that have brought this nation up to a better state aren't necessarily "liberal" in character. We tend to throw liberal and conservative tags onto everything these days. We need to remember that we didn't really talk about ourselves like this until Reagan and his crew came to power and began the "Us and Them" baloney which infects this nation to this very day.

You are so right. The vast majority of people are not looking for a hand out. They just want a chance at a better quality of life which has definitely been the liberal format for many, many years.

Up through the Civil Rights Acts of the 1960's, Liberalism was great for fighting corporate slavery.

Since then Liberalism has been getting more and more radical and controlling. It is fallacious to assume that Liberals did all those things alone. Purely dreaming.

Agreed

One of the elements that breeds new ideas is creativity which is spawned by leisure time and better income. Unions, minimum wage, and restricted working hours have helped cause that. Socialism and communism are simply about who controls the means of production.

None of the good things you site could have been done without the rule of law, or the money needed to get it done, which of course are both a result of capitalism. It is not equal rights that we should fear, but an enforced orthodoxy that socialism demands when dealing with the choices we make in our everyday lives and on a personal level.

Funny thing....you could go to the most conservative, religious woman in Texas and ask her to behave and obey like her grandmother did, and she'd tell you to go to hell.

Conservative are liberals without even knowing it.

Nice effort.Liberals made America what it is today. They truly made it the land of the free for ALL Americans.
However what you fail to understand is that to these people anyone who doesn't subscribe to their extremist agenda and that includes you needs to be silenced. They have no interest in debating you or even convincing you but in defeating you just like the next yihadi.Liberals are commies are terrorists in their little fox news, hate radio filled world. They see you as their enemy. It's sad but that's the truth.
