My son is 5 1/2 months old, we started giving him breakfast at 4 months and thats all he's had since then.. just breakfast of cereal and fruit..

He was still eating every 3hrs at that age and my pedi. suggested i'd stretch the time to 4 hours. He used to eat 5oz every 3 hrs.. But now, he's eating 8oz every 4.. Since the bottles are only 8oz, thats all i make.. He finishes it to the last drop, so i think he could even take in more..

so since he's been asking for more milk, should i go ahead and add dinner/lunch? Is this him telling me he needs more food?

and he wakes up for a feeding at night also..

Yes, I would definately introduce lunch and dinner. Dinner could be baby oatmeal and a veggie. Lunch for us until she was 11 months old was just a veggie and a fruit.

It sounds like he is hungry and needing more.

A 5 - 6 month old should be getting 26 - 32 oz of formula in 24 hrs including what you mix his cereal with. If he is wanting to eat more than 32 oz of formula then by all means add dinner only add one meal at a time don't go from just breakfast to breakfast lunch and dinner, he still needs the formula more than the solid food, if you over feed formula he will get pukey from too much liquid but you don't want to over do solids either, so you'll just have to see what the right balance for you child is but if he is hungry feed him but he should not be getting less that 26 oz of formula at this point, he will need at least that until he is a year old.

If he's still crying from hunger after 8oz, then yes, maybe you could introduce some rice cereal at lunch and/or dinner.

at 5 months i was doing breakfast and dinner. that way she was fuller before she went to bed and stayed asleep all night.
at around 6-7 months you can start on 3 meals a day.
and some finger foods too.
expect him to be taking less bottle too.
