We don't spell proper English.
We do it American style.
If we wanted to do it your way, we would have stayed colonies. We chose to kick you out instead.
If you think it is limited to the US, try reading most of the Questions from UK teens on here.

I might join in the debate ~ excepting he's gone and screwed it from the start.
The interesting thing (from my point of view) is that the Americans took a strong lead from the French Revolution and 'seemed' to have a great deal in common with these Frenchies ~ I'm sure I remember reading that some high ranking personage in the American political system actually tried to have the French language adopted as the National Language of the North Americas [ 'Language du America' ] ~ !
Since then, they have bastardised the language which strikes me actually as curious in a number of ways ~ for example, on the one hand they will shorten a word (because it suites them), but then will go for broke and pro-noun-ce other words heavily on the individual syllables.

Well, you've made a point, I suppose.
The reason they can't spell is that their public education system, in the past fifty years or so, has been 'dumbed down' so that anyone can get through it. Everyone must be equal - except of course, they are not.
