I agree Matty,

If Appy State moved up to the bowl division they would probably be about the 50th best team.

The entire "big" 10 in the top 25 is over rated by about 10 slots, so Michigan is probably about the 15th best team in the country. So the 50th best team played a nearly perfect game and blocked a kick in the final seconds to beat the 15th best team.

Quite an accomplishment, but worthy of quite THIS much attention?

The fact that I've answered this same question the same way six times speaks for itself.

This is probably the fastest Michigan team in 20 years, if you look at their defense, and all of the talent it has, i don't know how Ohio State is going to get by it, because they have done nothing against speed or the spread offense the last few years. And also, Michigan's offense will start clicking by then. I don't know about you, but I think that equals a win for Michigan. It'll be a low scoring defensive game, but they'll get the buckeyes this year. Michigan-21 Ohio State-17

Its a big deal if you are a big Michigan fan
because going into the game, Michigan was ranked #5 on some polls with some 1st place votes; they are a major conference team which usually whips up on a nonmajor team like App. State. this should have been a blowout by michigan, plus they played at home! This is huge because Michigan after the 1st week of college football can no longer be in the hunt for the national championship because this loss is so huge it knocks them out.

While Appalachian State is a VERY GOOD 1-AA team, they're still a 1-AA team that on paper had no business beating Michigan at Michigan! It's a big deal because Michigan is SUPPOSED to be stronger, faster and deeper due to having more scholarships at their disposal than a 1-AA school does.

It may not seem like a big deal to people who don't follow college football, but it is huge to those who do. A team who is usually a contender for the National Championship game got beaten (though nrrowly) by an unranked team. The first two games of the season for most Division IA are games to warm up to, so losing one makes a rather large dent in your record and has a chance of elimiating that team from the championship game. So, it is a big deal :o)

Michigan is a ranked Division 1-A and Appalachian St. is a Division 1-AA. No Division 1-AA team has ever beat a ranked team, much less a top 5 ranked team.
...sounds to me like someone was over-rated.

Michigan was supposed to be a contender for the National Title and they lost to a 1AA school. It's the biggest upset in the history of the game. That's the big deal.

Because of what Michigan use to be, the long winning tradition, but there a joke now. They beat up on dried up Notre Dame and people place them on a pedestal, but let me warn all "WE PLAY FOOTBALL DOWN SOUTH"

Michigan is known as a 1A school as far as athletics go. APP State is known as a 1 Double ! school. This means that Michigan is a bigger school . Bigger schools recruit the better athletes. APP State did play a better game than Michigan (IMO) and deserved to win. It is the first time that a 1A college got beat by a 1AA college.
