I wholeheartedly agree with Morrigan. While any form of Holocaust or genocide is an atrocity, you need to go to a less biased website. One that has general info. And maybe some back round about the time period and circumstances of different cultures and races.

I don't think we know more about this just because WW2 was more recent. Think of Rwanda and Serbia....I think it was because Americans and other Europeans saw it with their own eyes. Which did lead to more documentation. But I think it was the sheer horror of first hand experience that they then came home and told ppl about that made others more aware and interested. Also that it was ppl of the same nation (it would be like the rest of the US deciding to kill everyone in Montana) and ppl of every class.

There are a number of holocausts prior to WWII. Consider the Tutsis and Hutus in northern Africa -- they've been devoted to genocide against each other for hundreds of years. Likewise, pogroms in many, many countries have been exercised in attempts to wipe out Jewish culture.

The reason you aren't taught other holocausts in basic history classes is mediability -- basically, we have better coverage of "the" Holocaust because a) it ties into a major world war and b) it's recent enough in history that better documentation exists, including survivor accounts, mass-distributed printed word, film footage, and photographic footage.

If you take higher level history classes in college, you'll learn about far more genocidal and holocaust events.

I agree with other people's reasoning for why the Holocaust is most widely studied.

Also I recommend in your interest in history that you read reference books, general history books and visit NON-BIASED historical sites eg BBC History etc.
The unjustmedia site is by far and above one of the worst offenders I have ever encountered in regards to this.

The Holocaust happened during WWII.

However, there were other mass genocides. Of course there was genocide before World War II, what, do you think Hitler invented it? By far there were worse acts than that of Hitler, and quite frankly I agree with what you stated in your details. We should be learning about other mass genocides that make what Hitler did look like nothing.

Holocaust isnt the right term. By Holocaust it is death by fire. These Jewish Communists weren't burned all together. They were probably shot. Genocide is the best term
