The tiled floor of our recreation and patio area has been mopped each week with hot water for the past three months. However, lately I've seen a build-up of ingrown dirt or scum which has caused the paver tiles to discolour badly. What is the best method to strip the dirt from the tiles without affecting the grout and then maintain the tiles in a clean condition for the future?

In Australia we call it methylated spirits. You can water it down but on glossy (ish) tiles I just used it straight and it lifted that grime right out!

I had to use a scrubbing brush for some but a stiff plastic broom got most of it.

Vinegar removes some other stains.

As always try a bit on a small patch first because different grouts react differently but if its a grey (natural) grout it shouldn't be affected.

(I'm only guessing your 'paver tiles' are similar to mine - if they are clay pavers then water it down and use it more liberally as it will soak on a fair bit)

Other answer is good. After cleaning, buy some grout sealer and paint it on your grout. It helps to keep it clean.

I frequently use Muriatic acid and a pressure washer. That may be an unlikely FIX indoors
