"The Moon makes a complete orbit around the Earth with respect to the fixed stars (its sidereal period) about once every 27.3 days. However, since the Earth is moving in its orbit about the Sun at the same time, it takes slightly longer for the Moon to show its same phase to Earth, which is about 29.5 days (its synodic period)." The 29.5 day period is the period we see, as in 29.5 days from one full moon to the next.

Sidereal period of moon about earth is 27.32 mean solar days whereas the synodic period (which is called the lunar month) is 29.531 mean solar days.
