I'd trust them a lot sooner than I would trust George Bush, Hillary Clinton, Rudy Giuliani or any of the other @$$hol€$ running for President. Except for Tom Tancredo...him I trust.

It depends what they said we needed saving from!! If they said from yourselves, I'd probably ask for more of an explanation. What if their "solution" for saving us from ourselves was to just blow us up or keep only the "intelligent" people or even move certain choice humans to other planets.
If they said "Your earth is polluted and we want to help" and explained how they'd help I'd trust them. If they said other things about the environment too, I'd trust them.
If they talked about problems like poverty or overpopulation, again, it'd depend on HOW they proposed to solve the problem.

Depends did they bring and give our world the technology to stop obesity, heart disease and cancer??
did they bring us a way to reprogram sick people who hurt children??
if they do that they are welcome to not only help us but to take over if not then they can go away we need help fixing our problems and not adding to them!
