The screw in the middle of the handle rotates both right and left and will cycle the water off and on, but won't come out to allow me to remove the handle. The faucet is probably about 10 years old.

I can't get the plastic handle to come off to allow me to get to the cartridge.

The Moen is a good faucet but, it takes a special tool to get that valve out, there's no way, if it's the one I'm thinking of, to get it out without that special tool. I had to buy one, I've changed many valves with it, makes it simple. It cost me $34.00 back then. They may be cheaper at Home Depot now.

Call Moen. They have an 800 number and they are also happy to help. Moen also has a lifetime warrantee on all of their products.

You may be able to find a replacement valve set to fit that assembly. You would probably be better to upgrade to a new valve assembly considering it's age.
