I think it would have to be War and Peace. Took ages (about 3 weeks) but was pretty good - the 'peace' sections were better than the 'war' ones. Also, The Stand by Stephen King (the uncut version). I'm not sure which book is longest.

If we're talking longest series of books - which a number of people seem to be - it would have to be the Anita Blake books by Laurell K Hamilton - I'm reading book 14 at the moment

Aside from Lord of The Rings a series of books by an author called Stephen Donaldson, who so far has written seven books about same character, the eighth is due out in October hopefully that's the last as i want to know what happens in the end. It's like reading one book and totally engrossing.

The Lord of the Rings. Even though it was released in three separate books, the whole novel was originally intended to be released in one volume.
The Bible cannot count as the longest book because it is actually a collection of books, as everyone knows.

Clarissa by Samuel Richardson.

As far as I know, it still holds the record for being the longest book written in English.

I haven't read any singular books with impressive length... But I have read 11 books of the "Wheel of Time" series.
They are... a combined total of 7,476 pages. In hardcover editions.
and I'm still waiting for the last one, which I fully expect to be at least 700 pages.

Lord of the Rings is the physically longest book I've ever read.

Mentally, the longest are any of Robert Jordan's "The Wheel of Time" series. "The Wheel of Time rolls on and on...." How true!!!

Charles Darwin Origin Of The Species thats the book that should be considered the bible.
It should be made compulsory reading and put on the National Curriculum in ALL schools, instead of ramming religious nonsense down their throats.
