According to the timesonline, he will be going back to his old job.
Is this ethically right or is there a problem with someone working in such a prominent position who has such a bad sense of judgement and risk.

Hi puddy, this is ethically wrong. Typical, he is guilty of child neglect, perverting the course of Justice and returning to this Country where we are condoning his actions by not only treating him like a celebrity and giving him a million quid but then we welcome him back to a highly paid responsible job with masses of back patting, pay and sympathy. We are the laughing stock of not only the world but the Portuguese who will probably be so thankful he is finally leaving their shores. This is totally embarrassing. Shame on the Establishment and anyone else who welcomes him back.

Like I have said before those amongst us who have not sinned then cast the first stone.

I say this not as someone who is deeply religious but as a person who sees that we are all infallible and can make mistakes. Mistakes that can have devastating effects as we have seen with the disappearance of this wee girl Madeleine.

Do these mistake mean that we should not be given the chance to atone for those mistakes and by Gerry going back to work this maybe just the opportunity he wants to do just that.

We all should learn from our mistakes and no doubt you will learn not to ask such careless questions in future.

Gerry is going to have to work very hard to earn peoples respect again and he knows it will be an uphill struggle. However, he deserves the opportunity to do so especially as he has the skills that can help save the lives of others.

As far as we are aware...he is a good surgeon so there is no reason why he should not be able to go back to work. No matter what this family do, people will have something to say...they are stuck between a rock and a wall! If he goes back to work, people will say its too soon and he should be out loking for poor Maddie. If he stays off work, people will say that he is living off the fund.

This whole situation is really complicated. Leaving their kids alone was a very stupid and irresponsible thing to do. I know that they have not really acknowledged this..but at the moment whilst Maddie is still missing...I wish people could focus on praying for her return rather than bitching about her parents.

I think a lot of you here today, are missing puddys point.
I wonder if your relative or other loved one, waiting for a heart operation and Gerry McCann was the one perfomiing all ready to operate.. when he came back off his holidays.
I know the man has lost a dear child,Many people have had people who even die, and still have to face the terrible future without them.
I have had a heart by pass and I can tell you, you have to have complete trust in the person performing it................. Can you really trust a man with such a delicate matter, For god sake. He left his children alone in a foriegn land.

His job requires complete concentration. With a daughter missing and all the stress that entails, I'm not sure his mind would be 100% on his work. There is no room for error in his profession.

if he has always been competent in his job then why not. none of our children are born complete with an instruction manual. the reality is some parents, such as Gerry and Kate, are naive. i suspect lots people have children but don't posses great parenting skills, that doesn't make them bad people or incapable of doing their job. how many lives do you think he has saved already?
how many lives could he potentially save in the future?
yes he should be allowed to go back work.

So everyone who makes a error in judgement should leave there Jobs....prominent or not, FFS we would have no one left.
To my knowledge there has been no concerns raised by anyone to suggest he is in anyway incompetent or not fit to return to his job.
Anyway, I was under the impressions that some members of the ongoing hate campaign thought he was going to fraudulently live off of the find Madeline funds.........
It would seem not !

I fail to see how it can be wrong - on what grounds? If and when he feels ready to return to work I dont see any reason why he shouldnt - he must be good at what he does, his services are invaluable in this country. The bad sense of judgement you refer to (assuming your sense of judgement is right all of the time) was not in relation to his job. The real problem is we (human race) are too quick to pass judgement on others - take the rafter from your own eye before pointing out the straw in someone elses. Would you refuse his help in carrying out life saving surgery on your family?

It has no reflection on his ability to do a job.

Why oh why don't you wicked people just shut up don't you think they have suffered and will continue to suffer over this stupid mistake for the rest of their days.

I suppose you never know what stupid things you may do in the future that will haunt you for the rest of your life, I hope it will never have such devastating consequences.

It must be very difficult for all you perfect people.

Waht's the alternative? Living off the dole?
I'd far rather he did what he was trained to do.
