can anyone summarize the chromosome theory?

Chromosomes are the vehicles of hereditary characters(genes). Genes are linearly arranged on the chromosomes. They divide and each half goes to the daughter cell during cell division. Each daughter cell has the same number of chromosomes and genes on them.
