Can I connect a Macbook or Macbook Pro to the old bubble-style monitor (the ones that came in blue, orange, etc.)? I've had my G5 tower connected to it (through adapters) since 2004, but it's been a while so I'm curious...

When you say "bubble-style monitor" do you mean a simple monitor or a computer? Apple made the iMac computers that were built into a monitor and came in various colors such as orange. I don't know of any monitor itself that came in orange.

Now let's talk about "connect". Do you mean you want to use the monitor of an iMac with your laptop or connect two computers in a network to share files?

To connect to another computer in a network to share files, you need an ethernet network cable. Most PC technicians call it a "Cat-5" cable. You can buy one at any computer store, even Radio Shack. It can be either a "straight through" cable or a "crossover" cable, doesn't matter. To setup the connection in the system software, use the Help guide at the top of the screen. On the iMac, you will have a different setup compared to the new laptop if the system version is much older.

If you want to connect the iMac as a monitor, that is not easy. There are two possible ways. One way is to use Screensaver, link below. The other is to connect directly using cables after opening the iMac, other link below which has both Italian and English.

You will need to go from DVI on the Macbook Pro to VGA. and On the Macbook you will need to go from Mini DVI to DVI then DVI to VGA. It can be done here is the link to Apple's site where you will find the adapters you need if you don't have them yet. http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?nnmm=browse&mco=88D0EC6B&node=home/mac_accessories/cables

You should contact the Apple people like go to one of the stores or maybe you should check out the website but I doubt that they'll have such information on the website.
