Life, I feel is like a show. A show created by a "higher" authority to entertain themselves. It's like a soap opera of the heavens and I think the superior being sits up there and has a real crack at it all, because when you really look at it there really is no imperial theme.
It's just a show and we all are actors.
Life may be meaningless. I say this because some people live just to live, they really have no excitement, adventure, or great love; it's just breathing - waiting for and dreading your hour of expiry.
But, you see, when you're in love - kids, family, friends, husband, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend - then life is not just meaningless; then things are different. Coz if anyone were to ask me what I live for, I would say plainly that I live for my love, my passion. My fiance William and my work as a writer.
So your love - whatever it is (money, books, status, anything) - translates as the meaning of your life and if you have no love then your life has no meaning.

I ask this same question once in a meditation. The answer came clear as a bell.
It said I have placed you here to learn the true meaning of Love. What ever it was that was answering then told me something that really set me back. It said that I felt the way I did about certain people because I did not understand the true meaning of love. I protested and said that I did my best to love all of the people who were deserving of love.
It replied "yes that is your misunderstanding. You see love as something that you dole out in tiny little portions here and there to people who you have judged to be worthy of it. This is not love at all, it is only judgment". This stopped me dead in my tracks. I suddenly realized that what it was saying to me was true. This realization brought me to tears. It went
on and told me, "You treat love as though there is some shortage of it. It is not something that you can run out of. The more love that you give, the more love that there is in the world. Its that simple. The only way that there can be a shortage of it is if you hoard it and keep it to yourself."
It went on to explain, that "this is what Jesus was trying to tell you when he asked you to turn the other cheek, to judge not and to love your neighbor. He made no exceptions in these things that he requested of you. Why are you making exceptions, and judging some as worthy of love and others as not? Jesus fully intended for you to apply this love that you are to all, in a universal manner without any judgment of any sort". By this time the tears Were flowing freely. I was crying because for the first time in my life I Understood what the message Jesus left for us in the bible actually meant.
This has become my truth. I can't say what yours is for sure, but I have a feeling that it is probably similar.
Love and blessings

There is no meaning of Life. It is existence between birth and death, both on which we have no control. The main known functions are procreation and protection of the species. Every act of living beings circle around these two.

To me the meaning of life is continuation of the species and coming to the realisation & reality of yourself on an emotional & spiritual level. In otherwords mastering yourself & being all that you can be. We are all born with unlimited potentional.
IDK The more I think about this question the less of an answer of conviction I can come up with. I don't think there is a true answer.
I know what it is not! It's not about religion & wars, It's not about having or getting. It's not about hating.

Heh. I couldn't care less.
I'm just here to play my music. That's all the reason I need.
I dun care what comes next or what came first. Life's a short window of oppurtunity that I know I get to play my guitar in.
It'd sure be nice if afterwards I got to keep on truckin, though.

i think that you're right that no one really knows what life is but we all have our opinions. well, i too have different views on life, and everytime i get to live life for one day, i would say this is the meaning of life for me, and the onext day my meaning is different. well, in general i think that life gives me a hella good of a ride every day of every year, whenever the year passes by, life changes for me, but it constantly goes well for me in general, and it doesn't show me a way out of it, but instead entices me to go deeper and seek what my life means to me. i've also learned to not look for any meaning on what life gives me, because i find that life is more elusive when you search for its meaning, so i just live it. =)

I agree totally with you that meaning of life can only be an opinion..... the truth is that every time I think about it, I come up with a new and different answer.
This time around, I think that the meaning to life lies in being proactive.... inanimate objects can only react.... to be proactive is the prerogative of intelligent life.
