The book "NO time for Sargent's" was absolutely hilarious by the time they wrote the screen play it had changed so much it was hardly recognizable on 2 scenes of comedy left.

The Palermo Connection
Starring: James Belushi, Mimi Rogers Director: Francesco Rosi
One of the best suspense stories I have ever seen too bad it was just a screen play and not a book.
Highly underrated
No consistency in Hollywood.

It's like how in the UK everyone who had a dream or ambition that they were struggling to turn into reality, would go to London in the belief that the pavements were lined with gold. There are hundreds of people who have come from different cultures, backgrounds, classes etc, who each contribute (maybe without even realising it) something from their own background. Most of the ideas etc, are new and original - to Hollywood - they just have a special magical way of presenting the ideas (which can sometimes make an old idea seem new and glammed up!)

You know how when interviewing actors/authors/directors, the interviewer always asks what their inspiration was? For some it was an old film, for some a strong person, for some an actor, for some a genre, for some an idea.

Even stories like Dracula are based on legend, and cannot be claimed as completely original by their author.

I did a search to try to help you. If you copy and paste the above link, you may find something there that might help you. I did notice that Hollywood copied earlier English ideas from this article. If I can help more and find more snippets, I'll let you know, so read the above, then do loads of Internet searches.
Good luck!
