Hello from the UK, I was wondering if the American people see Jack Ruby as a good guy as he killed Lee Harvey Oswald, who himself killed a popluar leader?

Would it be a bit like someone having assassinated Winston Churchill then being murdered themselves, as a British equivalent? Sorry if this is a poor comparison but I'm not exactly the shiniest tool in the box! Just wanted to know whether I have it right that JFK- good, LHO- bad, JR- good.

Thanks

Jack Ruby shot Lee Harvey Oswald on live TV as I was watching the coverage.

I understand there are a couple theories on why Ruby shot him. Jack could have been a patriot overcome with passion about the killing of his president, or he could have been hired by the mafia to get rid of Oswald.

I don't know which to believe. The one thing I know is that his actions prevented us from ever learning first hand if Lee Harvey Oswald actually was the trigger man and if so who might have hired him to kill the president.

Jack's overall impact on history was bad from the point that it mucked up the investigation into JFK's killing and put another layer in the "Conspiracy Theory."

g-day!

Its strange you should pose this question now because I am reading a book by Vincent Bugiliosi
titled Reclaming History and it is about this very topic. The killing of the President.
I was on the playground at school when we heard and we thought it a joke. We found out it wasn't.
According to the book Oswald acted alone and I believe he did.
Jack Ruby robbed us from ever finding out what possessed Oswald to kill the President so no he wasn't good.
Try reading the book Reclaiming History it is HUGE but I am going to try read it all. It is very compelling.
I am now at the point where the casket has been brought to the Hospital to take Kennedy back to Washington.
In the back of the book it tells some coincidences between Lincoln and Kennedy like: Lincoln was killed in Ford's Theatre and Kennedy was killed in a Lincoln limo made by the Ford Corporation.
Both were seated next to their wives when shot.
Both lost sons while in the White House Lincoln's was 9 years old and Kennedy's was 2 days old.
Try the book it is VERY LONG but so far not boring.

No, because he killed Oswald who had the answers to the question of who was behind the assassination, theorists say that Jack Ruby killed Lee Harvey Oswald because he was a patsy and would spill the beans. Many people believe that the Mafia were behind the whole thing.

America is a media driven society and if our media is an indication of our national character, you just don't see a plethora of movies or tv shows glorifying Jack Ruby as a hero. This is not to say that Americans hate vigilante justice, in fact we have a fascination of the old west, and the cowboy vigilante, again look at our media. However, Jack Ruby is not that cowboy hero we make movies about and glorify in long documentaries . After JFK's assasination we had a lot of questions and when Ruby pulled that trigger, all of our hopes of getting any answered died.
Again if the media is an indication of our national character, simply go to google and type in Jack Ruby and hero, see what you find.

Some might do. I personally don't because Ruby might be the one or someone working for the one who planned Kennedy's assassination. Ruby might've shot Oswald so he wouldn't tell the real story to the police.

A lot of people saw Jack Ruby as a nut. He hanged out in police departments and self styled himself to shoot Oswald.

I think most Americans see Jack Ruby as messing up everything. Because of Ruby, there are things about the assassination that could have been learned that probably never will be.

I agree with most of the others, Ruby took out Oswald and robbed us of answers and then Ruby dies...one thing to add is alot of people know Oswald's name, fewer remember Ruby's so I'd say most didnt view him or his deed favorably.

As a two-bit night club owner in the Marcello organization, i doubt whether Americans see him as a hero at all. He probably sealed the lips of Oswald to stop any leaks leading to the Mafia involvement....

Jack Ruby was a crazy, immoral lunatic...

And I am not too young to remember the Kennedy administration and everything that happened during that time.
