Since the Death sentence was abolished there has been a huge rise in the number of murders and acts of terrorism commited in this country.Recently the number of murders committed , almost daily have been mindblowing.A life sentence..............now as short as ten years is a joke....my suggestion is very simple...........after a suspect is found guilty...........of murder....or terrorism...they are held in custody for one year.........then tried..before a jury again ..if they are then found guilty .........they are put to death...........either hanging..........or lethal injection. How many of you think that this would stop the almost casual use of lethal force by an ever increasing number of criminals

yes the death penalty should be brought back but there has to be 100% proof that they are guilty . but there should be more harsher sentences as well . life should mean life . there should be compulsary castration of rapists and paedophiles none of this soft attitude with them with counselling. the U.K. has gone soft. there are no deterrrents anymore. criminals think that going to prison is easy and they don't learn from it exept how not to get caught the next time !all you have to do is look at the news at the waste of human life due to gangs. how many more innocent lives will be lost until the judicial systems gets itself sorted out and make sentences tougher and stop thinking about the human rights of the offender ! what about the victims ?

When capital punishment was abolished we were told that it would be replaced with life meaning life imprisonment. This has only happened in very few cases. If you commit murder you will be pretty unlucky to do even 10 yrrs.

One of the problems seems to be the fact that this government will not build more prisons so, very often, cases of murder are reduced to manslaughter which carries a shorter sentence.

Where I live, a well know glue sniffer with an appalling record for violence killed his girlfriend by stabbing her in the eye. The charge was reduced to manslaughter and he served precisely 3 yrs in prison.

It's this sort of thing that need addressing, not the re-introduction of capital punishment. Imprisonment for the life is the best solution. At least any miscarriages of justice can be resolved whereas it's a bit late if you've been hanged etc.

As for your suggestion about 2 trials for murder or terrorism, you only need one trial. Two would cost a monumental amount of money which would be better spent on more prisons.

Yes, without doubt the death sentence should be returned. And for the ones who say it doesn't work in america etc just check this out!!!!!!!!!!!! When the death sentence is passed it should be carried out immediately. The trouble with america is, just like us they have a misguided element of do-gooders who don't know their **** from their brain. They only want to look for excuses etc and then they get an appeal which lasts for 15 to 20 years and the tax payer has to pay for plasmas and weight lifting equipment etc.
When these scum see other perpetrators hanging from a gallow or lethally injected perhaps they will think twice about their actions.
As for human rights, well, they aint got any, they voided that anomily when they took the deceased persons life away from their family. Don't try to create a sympathy vote for someone on death row. Finally, if hanging comes back let the next of kin have first option of pulling the lever and if they don't feel they can do it there will be plenty of volunteers.

Not happy to have the death penalty back but the 10 years as a life sentence is a joke. Then years can be knocked off that for time in remand and good behaviour etc. Life should mean life or at the very least 20 years plus loss of all human rights. For any asylum seeker found guilty of murder or paedophilia, since they have not only committed a crime but have abused the hospitality of this country, they should be sent back to wherever they came from even if that means their lives are in danger.

We can all have the natural gut reaction of 'yeah, string 'em up!' but once you give it some thought, it is just not the answer. There have been far too many miscarriages of justice in this country and people are still being released from prison who have been wrongfully convicted. A post mortem pardon is no consolation to anyone.

It's all very well to say that Dna evidence would preclude a miscarriage of justice but many of the results of some cases do not rest on Dna evidence anyway.

Murderers and terrorists should be sentenced to whole life imprisonment, no perks, and posssibly bring back hard labour. I have absolutely no pity for these brutes at all. I'm not remotely interested in prisoners' rights, I would like to see the law abiding public have the right to go about their business without fear of violent attack or worse.

i read yesterday that there is one unsolved murder every week in the UK.So if you commit murder there's every chance you won't get caught, so in those cases the punishment is academic. People will aways think that they won't get caught anyway.

In my opinion the best thing to do is to prevent crime and, where that doesn't work, catch criminals. A big problem is that the legal system has got very top heavy, with cases going on for months if not years, and lots of 'expert witnesses' who, together with the lawyers and judges, get paid far too much out of the public purse. The money should be spent at the sharp end.

This simply is not true. You should really make sure the facts are in place before making a decision on whether someone should be executed or not.
Your question proves that we are not ready to even think about the death penalty.

The Birmingham 6 would all be dead now if you had your way
Timothy Evans is dead, executed by the state and pardoned posthumously. ( I bet he's pleased.)

Absolutely not,as the quote goes "a civilised society is not judged upon the quality of its justice but upon the quality of its mercy".
To resort back to our more recent barbaric past of an eye for an eye wouldn't stem the rising murder rates (or is it the fact that the tabloids tend to run with a murder story as far as they can get away with it or until the fickle public lose all interest). Also look at the Victorians they had the death penalty and yet the examples of child abuse and murder were much higher than they are now.
The death penalty is no more a deterrent than life meaning life when it comes to sentencing and in many ways would make us just as bad as the societies that we have the habit of considering barbaric.
Just my pennies worth.

No i don't think so, There have been far too many miscarriages of justice for my liking in this country. And for those who want too see a return to these dark days, just how do you apologize to a loved one after taking there loved ones life unlawfully, the execution of one human being wrongly is one too many for my liking. The death penalty is not the answer it is barbaric and makes us no better than the murderer. Prison for a murderer should be hell on earth they lose their right to any of the trappings they enjoyed outside no phones, video, television etc etc,. Hard graft in the community they wronged is the answer that how they should repay society

No but life should mean life and prisoners should have to work during their sentence. There should be more prisons built, ones specifically for lifers and the Human Rights laws ought to be changed/abolished and duties of UK citizens be emphasised throughout as an exchange for rights.

Anyone breaking the law who are imigrants should be removed to their country of origin and refused return.
