Since 1949 the U.S. has given Israel a total of $83.205 billion. The interest costs borne by U.S. tax payers on behalf of Israel are $49.937 billion, thus making the total amount of aid given to Israel since 1949 $133.132 billion. This may mean that U.S. government has given more federal aid to the average Israeli citizen in a given year than it has given to the average American citizen.

Oil, the US needs a puppet state in the Middle East that is completely dependent upon the US so that the US can control access to Oil.
The best type of puppet state uses the type of puppet that is foreign to the region (CHECK) and hated by everyone else in the region (CHECK). This is why the United States supports Israel and the peace process goes no where.
--It is also why the United States supports the Kurds in Northern Iraq.

Here is my question: Ask yourself the following: How much has the USA given in foreign aid EXCLUDING Israel since 1949?
Israel is a single country. The money spent on foreign aid in total excluding Israel far exceeds the money given to Israel. Thus, by your reckoning, the US has allegedly spent that money on foreigners with none of it going to its citizens.
Yet, here you stand not questioning the wisdom of foreign aid, or the wisdom of aid to Egypt (second largest recipient... and they aren't even that pro American), but only the aid to Israel.
Why?

We give money to a lot of countries. Look at what we gave to Europe after WW2. We even give aid to Iran, for Pete's sake; when that country hates our guts.
My question is why your question? Do you hate Jews and Israel that much? And isn't it our business who we give money to?
Edit: JoJo, he was asking Americans, not Muslims who hate Americans. And Palestine was under British control when the modern state of Israel was created. Read your history and get over your hatred of Americans and Jews. Maybe if the Jews didn't feel so threatened all the time, that if you people wouldn't keep harping about wiping them off the planet, things would go better for everyone.

alpha and rosemary gave excellent answers to which I would like to add...you forgot to mention that the U.S. completely rebuilt Japan after WWII and forgave Germany its war-time debt. And let's not mention the billions that have been funneled to the PLO (you know Palestinian Terrorist Front). Why are you targeting just Israel?

Well, between Medicare, Medicaid, and social security, the U.S. gives 1.4 Trillion dollars annually to U.S. citizens. So, you are incorrect to state that the government here gives more to Israel than her own citizens.

In the 1700's the Christians decided that if the "chosen" faith were to be saved then the Christian faith was its supporter.....seriously...The sacred land of Isreal has been deemed for the Jewish in the US unofficial doctrine. Though current Americans are more accepting and broad in their religious vision, the tradition of the nucleus government is to secure it for the Jews...hence the Christians as well.
I am officially scared and disgusted.

you said that your question is for americans, but i really had to answer your question. i'm an arab a muslim one and if you dont want to read my answer its ok. the reason why usa helps israel is because it kills us. long time ago jews used to live in spain, france and lots of other countrys. there they were humilated they were called the marranos (pigs) and were prvented to enter resturants and were tortured. so Belfore a british politican i guess he was the prime minister promised the jews to establish their own lands in palastine and he took a part of palastine by force and gave it to the jews to get rid of them. here we call this act "the promise of who doesnt own to whom doesnt deserve". anyways israel wants to expand its lands to be from a river in iraq till the nile river. i guess that america is helping it accomplish its goal of taking lands it doesnt deserve, kill arabs children, rape arabs women and take arabs resources. the money america gives israel is used in murdering us. i have to ask you why do you hate us that much????. i didnt lie in any word i said you can check the history or karen armstrongs book "the battle for god". thanks
