I wake up in the AM, and I'm happy, centered and focused. I know what I want and what I'm doing.

After one day out and about (I'm in the NYC area), from all that goes on, traffic, countless of other people, possible weather, and things going on, I feel like it all takes away from me, and at the end of the day I kind of lose a part of myself.

Is this a problem with me, or is there alot of stimuli out there, and I need to learn how to control/manage it.

Many people don't let it phase them. I want to know how to do that!

Hello from a fellow NY'r. I understand what you mean about external stimuli draining the life force out of you.

I avoid to the best of my ability people and environmental factors that get to me.

In addition, I tell myself to slow down the rushing emotions caused by the outside. This helps. I also slow my physical body by breathing slowly. This is an involuntary reaction to this type of breathing and causes the body and mind to enter a calmer plane.

If you still need to recover at the end of the day, do an activity which is soothing. For me, I get on the computer and listen to music. I also have white noise that I use, especially before I go to sleep. It's like recharging a battery.

I hope I've helped in some way.

hey - i really understand what you mean, however you need to get into your mind that there are alot of things that are beyond your control (traffic and weather are just a few examples) and if you get mad or concentrate on them too much - it'll just get you down. you can't change it anyhow, so why make a big deal about it. do what you can - be prepared for the weather, leave early enough to allow time for unexpected traffic, etc but go with the flow. try taking deep breaths and smiling even if you have to force yourself at first. you'll be surprised at the results...
good luck
