Agathoula,we all know about the historic past of our country, and i am the first who says many times this phrase...Looking the present nowdays, it is better though to see how the modern greeks react in front of their heritage...
Yes, we created the theatre, the philosophy, the medecine...But look around us, how many of our compatriots know how to preserve it, and without any punishment for the damage they cause to our wonderful monuments...
How many write graffitis on the heads of our historic personalities, how many have stolen statues to sell them abroad...The Venus of Milos unfortunately was there to keep standing up a door, since a french guy came, saw it, and bought it...And nowdays it is the Venus of Milos, in the museum of Louvre...
Let s be realistic...And what i see is that the youth begun nowdasy caring a little bit more, because our ancient civilisation is one of the best in the world...
We need consciousness...We need knowledge to appreciate it...

Thank you my friends below matshemes and Alana

Greece was highly influential in its day, but hasn't had much significant influence in recent centuries. Other countries, like Italy, England, France, and of course America, have had more of an impact on world civilization in the last couple of thousand years. And Egypt for instance had an immensely rich civilization and culture that lasted for three thousand years, far longer than the Greece was a major civilization. Chinese civilization is considered very impressive by many. Greece was impressively influential for a comparatively short period of time. It all depends how you measure these things I suppose.

I know that most of my countrymen are uneducated and easily led, but I have never heard anyone 'doubt the history and civilization of greece'. I'm not even sure what this means. Did someone question whether Greece existed?

As a whole, Americans (those of us who can read, anyway) are fascinated by ancient cultures. Our country's history is so short that we must live vicariously through other cultures. Besides, where would we be without Greek mythology? We wouldn't have had Dungeons and Dragons to play when we were kids...

Is your question directed specifically to the Americans living in the United States?

If so and you are in fact cognizant of history then of course you are aware that the USA did not even exist then. Or perhaps you may have been absent the day they taught that?

We are very proud of the fact the USA is a ”melting pot” of people from different countries, different cultures from around the world. Including from your beautiful and historical country of Greece. Thus it is entirely possible and indeed probable that
our citizens of Greek heritage had ancestors whom were in fact helping on the project.

I have numerous Greek friends here in the USA. And I do know their relatives helped in two other endeavors. And paid a heavy price. World War 1 & 2. They fought and died wearing the uniforms of USA soldiers. Fighting to help liberate Europe. Yes Greece and numerous other countries.

Thus please excuse me if I ask you to direct your arrogant hostility someplace else.

I believe the parthenon fell a while back and though it's skeleton remains, so will the american history after it has fallen.

don't think that the greek are so great and all that. they were great once but no more.

that is the "circle of life" be proud of what you had, but come back to the present.

sorry to burst your bubble.

it sounds like you have a personal issue with someone
maybe you should address them.

or how about moving your anger to those that hold stolen parts of our ancient temples in their museums, and wont return them thus making it impossible for us to restore them to what they were
