If you are exclusively using empty Threats to Discipline our children, wouldn't that teach them that lying is acceptable?

i was smacked (albeit rarely) as a child and i am the least violent person you could meet.
i have smacked my daughter before, albeit very rarely. Not beat, but smacked (on the hand). SOmetimes she will not respond to talking and a smack is the only way to get her to calm down and behave. I use it as a very last resort - i am not a fan of smacking generally.
i am sure i will get a thumbs down for this but oh well lol

It may not be acceptable in today's moral climate, but I have to say that my children were much better behaved as a result of the occasional smack than many others. And 60 years on they show their love for me in many ways.

No it isn't acceptable. It does nothing to teach the child the actual reason why something they have done is wrong. It just introduces violence and misery into the household. The child looks up to you for guidance, set a good example.

It's quite a degrading measure, but women abuse men with words all the time so a backhand now and then is there any difference. The words sting a lot longer, so the hand is a bit merciful.

It all depends on the situation !!!!!
A better method is the threat of smacking.
Example..... "I will count up to 5 and if you have not stopped
I will put you over my knee and spank your bottom"

depends on whos smacking who and where. if its your kid and you smack them on the hand or the butt thats fine or if you smack them in the mouth (not hard though) if you here them cus. its a completely different story though if youre just walking down the street smacking random people. it all depends on the details

Yes. That's why we were given hands. My girl likes it when I smack that @s5. I also read that it keeps the demons away during sex.
