No. Calif. with places like San Francisco, Oakland, Berkely, Santa Cruz, and Silicon Valley are like what, as compared to So. California towns like LA, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Orange County?

Can you give an accurate description that would differentiate the culture and lifestyles between the two areas? How do the landscapes generally differ? What about the people? Any noticiable demographic differences?

In general, which of the two areas of this state would you rather live if you had to choose?

I live in Southern Cali, Orange County. I love it here, it's clean , the weather is great and we have Disneyland, L.A.'s a cool place to shop San Diego is fun too. I've been to San Fran and Oakland the weather alone was a turn off for me.

I used to live in Oregon and for work would make weekly trips to Sacramento (No,Cal.), and I have passed through LA a few times. What I know about ANYWHERE is that you have good areas and bad areas. No Cal & So Cal are different from one another, If I had to pick one, it would be No Cal, I think the scenery is prettier, less smog, and its not such a rat race. Its really about what YOU like...if you like great beaches, LOTS of people, major traffic, and cities that are unbelievable huge, then southern cali is for you. If you like a big city that you can get out of fairly quickly to head off to a beach or mountain, that also has everything you could ever want without having to go to far...then northern cali is for you. BUT just some advice, EVERYTHING is expensive in Cali. its crazy how much housing is there. If you dont have money or a good job or a relative that you can rent from, you may not like where you will have to live. I stayed at a friends house which was valued at 575,000 and I thought i was in the bad part of town. If I could afford Cali, it would be a fun choice. Take a trip and check it out first before you move

I've lived in both parts and they are both unique. one has HOLLY WOOD, the other has the wine country beautiful rolling hills with vines....

as for the south, there is more to do if you are into the beach scene. quality of food is better down south if you like mexican. beautiful parks: yosemite, mojave, joshua tree national, etc. the beaches are spectacular and surfing is good.

amusement parks are mostly down south. 6 flags, seaworld, disney, etc.

up in SF bay area, you have the redwoods, the wine country, the skiing up inthe mountains. the cold and the rain.
food is a bit more sophisticated but still economical. more liberals and more activists.

you are close to Reno up north, but you have Vegas down south.

they are pretty close, I think you would enjoy both.
I live now in NC and would kill to go back to either place...

I was born and raised in Northern California- SF and slightly south of there. I totally prefer NoCa because of the nature, the green, the weather, SF and all its culture, being close to Tahoe, wine country, beaches, mountains- everything you could ever want. BUT it's ridiculously expensive!!!!! So Cal has Disneyland- my favorite place- but it's not a bad drive from No Cal.
