Both are necessary, but influence over others is the greater power.

If a person discovers the secret to life, the universe, and everything else, how can he implement it without recruiting others to his cause. Think of it this way: Would you rather have the solution to the world's problems in the hands of Albert Einstein or Martin Luther King? Both are brilliant men with influence. However, the former would publish a scientific paper, and the later would start a revolution.

How about Stephen Hawking vs Oprah Winfrey? Who could bring about change?

Mind alone is nothing. Truth alone is nothing. Truth dies a swift death without persuasion.

Having ideas that have the potential of causing a paradigm shift in society is indeed great power in itself. So I would say that it is one's ideas that give one power, even if the idea sounds like goodwill. Goodwill, in itself, is a good idea that is becoming more and more unpopular these days.

Power over people is itself a power of the mind. You cannot have power over other people without making up your mind to use that power and thinking about how to use that power. Possession of power starts with the realization that you have it.

The real power of a person is his knowledge. Knowledge is power and we all know that. The power of the mind is more greater because it is where the intelligence and imagination of a person lies. To be great one uses the power of mind. I don't know any person who didn't use the power of mind. Power of people just follows after the former is used. Power of the mind is so powerful to use it in contributing for a better place we live.

Technology Revolution is realized because of the power of the mind.

Real power is given by person's 'thoughts'. Power of mind is greater which is manifested in power over people.

a person's goodwill allows him to see things for what they are and in turn expands his/ her mind.
a person with goodwill also abosorbs more knowledge.
this state of mind leads to good ideas.

whereas an ill intentioned person has their mind set on one thing and are blind to many possibilities.


the power over people cannot be underestimated.
however, the power over people is temporary if one does not have the power over mind and power over people can diminish after not living up to expectations and changing circumstances.

That old saying "mind over matter" i think applies here. people are made up of matter, so power of mind i think is always better. :D

many times intelligence assists in success and capability specific, smartest people the meanest? no. capability basically empowers a guy or woman, they had to have had that element of their character before then.
