The 24-second violation. a rule which restricts players from having the ball too long during their possesion.

The 3-second violation. a rule which prohibits players from staying in the shaded lane too long.

Regulation Time:

Official time in professional Basketball is 48 mins. for four (4) quarters. Meaning a 12 minute time per quarter.

Official time in amateur Basketball is 40 mins. for four quarters. Which means a ten minute time per quarter.

If ever a game is tied at the end of regulation an additional 5 mins is added to decide the winner. This goes on until a winner is declared.

5 second inbound time and the 8 second rule to cross the half court line.

Hope this helps.

aside from what the two ahead of me have said, lets not forget the most important rule:

you're suppose to outscore your opponent in only 48 minutes of play. if after 48 minutes and the score is tied, an extra 5 minutes will have to be played.

but you all know this of course :)

also, there's a time limit on how long before one shoot a freethrow but it isnt stictly enforced.

You have 5 seconds to inbound the ball, 3 seconds in the paint, 24 shot clock violation, and i think 8 seconds to bring the ball to the other half of the court.

one, the invention of the basket ball brings a need to create a field where you can use this ball. so, we now have fenced in courts, and large buildings, which take up space, and the larg buildings polute, whereas the fenced in courts prevent you from building a building that pollutes. also the invention of the basketball creates oppurtunities to exercise, wihich makes us healthier.
