Dubai is a fabulously wealthy city in the United Arab Emirates. It is one of the fastest growing cities in the world and one of the most cosmopolitan locales in the middle east. There was a very good article on it in National Geographic this month. I must admit I mostly just read the captions under the pictures, but they were astounding pictures. But apparently more than half the workforce is foreign laborers. Many wealthy foreigners live there for its opulence, freedom, and until recently low cost of living. Most people dress in western clothes, even some of the Arab women. And they are in the middle of a grandiose building boom. Building the worlds tallest building, by a large margin. And building huge artificial Islands.
