Does it overheat only in city traffic and is ok on the highway?
Suspect the fan.
Check to see if your fan is coming on. If you turn the AC on, the fan should come on whether it is warmed up or not.

Any noise coming from the belts? perhaps the fan belt is not tight enough.

Have a thermostat? perhaps needs replacing.
Make sure it's not installed backwards (could happen).
Perhaps you have a 180 degree thermostat?
I believe yours stock is a 210 degree (better verify that).

If it has a V-6, check near your thermostat housing or top of intake manifold for a small brass screw. That's where you 'bleed-off' the air from the cooling system when refilling.
Do it when it's cold & fill until you have coolant coming out.
Otherwise you get an 'air-lock' in the system & coolant doesn't reach the thermostat to allow it to open. Fords were always good for that, bad design.
Get a new mechanic if that was it! Good Luck, hoped I helped.

It could be thermostat isn't opening all the way. Restricting flow of antifreeze thru the engine.

It might also be the fan. Make sure the fan is turning on after the car gets hot. That could cause overheating.

How's the serpentine belt?
Is the water pump leaking?

If those are not it, then it could be head gaskets.

check to make sure the thermostat is not stuck closed...after that, if it still is overheating, check the water pump by looking down into the radiator and see if the water is circulating.
If those are ok then it is your fan or your radiator.
