The foremost of all things we should realize in life is the existence of our soul atman within. It is our soul atman that has manifested the body to work out its karma and not otherwise. Eradicating the impurities... the dross within soul atman is the sole purpose of life in the Cosmos! Had the big bang not occurred... there would not have been any Cosmos or life!
Bhagavad Gita... the most sacred scripture of Hinduism on Mother Earth makes it explicitly clear that the presence of our soul atman is the real essence of life. In every manifest stage of life it is our soul atman that manifests a body to cleanse itself of the impurities within. The form of a human being is but a fleeting moment in the life cycle of soul atman within.
It is a different matter that only as a human being can the soul atman within liberates itself from the cycle of birth and death... regain its lost original pure pristine form! Never from heaven or hell can the soul atman within gain entry directly into the abode of God... the kingdom of God (aka Baikuntha in Hinduism).
The moment human beings gain enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and finally salvation (moksha)... All is over for the soul atman within! Having reached the end of cosmic life... the 8.4 millionth manifestation... life ceases to exist for the soul atman within! No further manifestation of the human body... the soul atman finally liberates forever.
Human form is the highest manifest stage in the cosmic life cycle. In the human form alone we have 1.1 million manifestations to reach the stage of enlightenment and salvation. Whether we do it now in this life or many manifestations henceforth is our sole prerogative. Who knows what we shall be in the next manifestation... why not travel the spiritual path now!
Always remember we have one life to live. Why? One manifest stage of life is never connected to another. The present human form is not connected to past life or the future manifestations directly. Whatever materialistic gains one accumulates in present life... all shall be left behind the moment death of the body occurs.
Only the good karma (the accumulated virtues) gets transferred to the next life! Similar is the case with negative karma. Why hoard riches beyond needs of the present manifestation! Life is in every deed... life is not a goal but a journey! Gaining virtues in life is not the domain of spiritual seekers alone... those leading a normal life must also indulge in good karma!
Hearing the sweet small inner voice of our soul atman that seems to come from within our heart always guides us on the right path! Those who travel the path of absolute truthfulness distinctly hear this voice! Guided by this voice human beings finally cross the ocean of Samsara (worldly life) and become Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ or prophet Mohammed! heh. that life is not always interesting. To put such a great expectation on such a simple thing will fill your life with disappointment.
You should know that every time you hug somebody or tell them you love them you are making the world a better place.
You should know that your own happiness is the most important thing but the best thing is if you can make yourself happy by making others happy.
You should know that you can make a difference. Take action.
But most of all you should know that the world is in serious peril and to assure that life continues you must act.

You should know what you WANT (out of your existance). This means job, partner, and future. The problem is, that we don't really 'learn' this till we are about 30, mainly because it changes and needs to mature. As you begin life, alot of it is about getting to experience stuff. So, you will need to go through a growing period (14-25) before you are really nearly sure of what you remotely might want...
Good Luck :)

The key, is common sense. Book learning is ok but if you don't have common sense and use it, you're basically in deep trouble. If something sounds too good to be true, then it is. Think things through before doing them. Ask yourself, if I do this, are there consequences and if so, what are they, and is the risk worth the consequence.

You can take a piece of uncooked spaghetti and hold it at each end and break it and it will ALWAYS break in 3 pieces, even if 1 of the pieces is very small and flies away. Try it and see.

Printer manufacturers print invisible yellow dots on consumer's prints that check to see if a person is printing counterfeit money. If you call your printer manufacturer and ask them to "please stop spying on you", they will send secret services to your address to find out why you care about your privacy. Upset? You should be. The more people who call their printer's manufacturers and make this request, the more likely secret services will refuse to investigate.
