It has more to do with when you go than anything.
If you can go Sunday through Thursday, avoid special events and large conventions. AND, plan well in advance you can find bargains.
The best rates are in December, this year, December 9th to the 28th.
Rates are "generally" lower from November first until the end of February. Then again from Memorial Day to Labor day.
two good sites to check for room rates

http://www.hotels.com
to access every hotel/casino web site in LV

air
http://www.southwest.com

I have always been able to save money by getting the air and hotel separate.

The best deals for both air and hotels are usually with the airlines themselves. I would try Southwest Vacations or US Airways Vacations. Depending on where you are, these are usally the cheapest packaged deals. Can buy transports to the hotels and everything in one package. They are pretty easy to navigate and will show you the cost breakdown for different hotels. I have used both of these specifically for travel to LV. Compare the prices on Vegas.com, which uses US Airways/American West, but is always higher than if you go direct to their site.

Good luck and have fun in Vegas!

State Line. Whiskey Pete's, Buffalo Bill's, or Primm Valley Resort. Check out the weekday rates or package deals. Or you can also check out The Rio Casino & Hotel in Vegas itself, last I stayed there they ran about $90 a night for a suite, really nice place and has the VERY BEST all you can eat buffett, even cooked to order steaks. :o)

Well, it depends on where you're coming from and the time of year. I dont know about going for a couple hundred...that might be for a sketchy hotel thats far from the strip.
But I have always found reasonable packages with expedia.ca or expedia.com.
Also check southwest air and travelocity.com

Ride the bus, some casinos provide free bus fare. Some of the casinos are not for high rollers, you can stay for about $50.00. The good deals are for known high rollers who are also losers.
