I have finially told her not to talk to me about it anymore and her daughter deserves much better then her. You need to understand, she has been doing this for way too long. 12 years and thats how old her daughter is.
answer is sure, tell them, there is a chance you will do some good but the chances are slim that the person will change.

I have talked to several friends about their alcohol consumption. It was more along the lines of leading them to see the alcohol at the root of marriage trouble, work issues, life disorganization or just feeling crappy all the time. Asking leading questions such as "what do you think is causing you to be so _________? " Listen to their answer and then lead it to booze. "Oh, I had a friend that drank X number of beers at night, and when he stopped he felt so much better. Do you think it would be worth a try? "

I would speak up. I have trouble keeping my mouth shut. The closer they are to me the more I would try to help. It would break my heart if something happened to a friend and I said nothing. However, there is only so much you can do and if they refuse it might end the friendship. It's a tough situation dealing with addiction.

Alcohol addiction can be a VERY serious problem. If you really feel that your friend has a problem with alcohol, and that it is interuppting their everyday life and/or threatening their safety, then you should do something about it. If you don't know the person very well, then first maybe try talking about it with someone who knows them better and cares about them. If that doesn't work, then try talking to a professional or even the person themself.

That's what friends do, if you really think there is a problem it's your duty as a friend to say something. A true friend will at least understand your concern even if they refuse help.

Yes, save their life and possibly others. You gonna let them drive drunk? So what if they get p.o.'d. A true friend would intervene.
