i have one question: why would so many people choose a life in which they are scorned by their peers? how do you explain that?

actuallly brookbabe to me it seems like most people who are nonconformists are like that because they think they will look cool in the face of their peers. now with homosexuality that just doesn't make sense. and please don't just answer with "it's a sin" because that doesn't answer my question.

ok many of you are saying that they do it so that they have a group to fit in with and they can change back if they want to. if that is so then how do you explain the fact that so many gay people try very hard to become straight but do not suceed? how do you explain the number of teenagers who have committed suicide because they could not deal with their sexual orientation? how do you explain all those outed republican politicians? why on earth would they choose to be gay?

you cannot compare pedophilia to homosexuality in terms of values. having a partner of the same sex is a mutual thing while pedophilia involves taking advantage of someone who doesn't know any better. however, it is the only good argument i've heard so far. but you still did not answer my other questions involving suicides and republican politicians who have had their careers ruined because they were gay. i'm still waiting for a good answer to that.

It's not like it's a fad or the latest "thing", but some folks think it is like a big menu

Another good question is, "When did you choose to be straight?"
But, ask a Christian either one of those questions and they'll dance around it because they CAN'T answer it. If it was a choice, how would they make it? With a pro/con list? What on earth would go under "pro" for being homosexual?!
By the way, to Cornelius--I didn't know Jesus' love was unconditional...you mean he only loves certain people?! I thought he loved everybody UNCONDITIONALLY. Besides, Jesus himself never said a word against homosexuality in any of the four Gospels--it was misogynistic, homophobic Paul using Jesus to justify his intolerance. Take a hard look in the mirror, you bigoted hipocrite!
(Sorry, I'm an angsty teenager with the flu that can't get a decent night's sleep, I'm not exactly the nicest person in the world right now.)

Can't you come up with something more original? I first heard that 35 years ago.
And you are wrong. People that disagree with homosexuality get scorned.
I don't agree with homosexuality but have a few friends that are. We just agree to disagree. I love them as persons. Not there sexual orientation.

Because they are more attracted to their sex. Yes its a choice but its hard not to be who you are. Say that when a man liked a women, people would make fun of it. How do you feel. You are attracted to women? Well it feels to them like it feels to straight people. Just in the same gender. The reason they feel so weird about it is cause everyone puts them down for it. And some people have a religion that is against it and it is hard to get away from it. To them it is like telling you that you cannot lust for women or you are stupid.

Homosexuality is a natural state for many people. Just like being straight is a natural state for many people. It's like saying that being left handed is not natural. In fact, in the not to distant past children who were born left handed were tortured and forced not to use their left hands. Now no one would think of such barbaric treatment of people who are left preferred. I hope our society comes to the point when they will quit ostracizing people because they are gay.

Ask any homosexual. 10 times out of 10 they will say that it's not a personal choice. They were born that way. It's something they were born with. Nobody chooses to be gay, it just happens.
The world is already full of too much hate. Why not stop judging people by their differences and start respecting people despite their differences?

Well in the same sense, it's like people choosing to be racist. They get scorned by SOME people not all. Just like gays. They aren't scorned by everyone.
I see your point. But it really is lacking

It makes them happy. For example, I'm not gay, but there is a girl I like that, well...isn't exactly a looker and I get a big old pile of crap from my friends about it, but I don't care. I know that she makes me happy and I love her to death and so I stay with her. When it comes to something like that, what other people think isn't important it's what makes ourselves happy. Scorning isn't what matters to people. Besides a lot of gays are more likely pretty much born gay.

ahh good question. Not only that, but I think that people who believe homosexuality is a choice should also sit down and try to remember the day that they "chose" to be heterosexual. Then they should realize that no one makes that decision.
People should just accept that some are born differently, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that!

I don't believe it's a choice but I will play devil's advocate for a minute.
Goths are scorned. they choose it.
guys with long hair are scorned.
white supremacist, rednecks,
I think that nowadays the above are actually scorned more. Being gay is much more acceptable in most places now. my son goes to a rural school and he has friends that are openly gay. no one bugs them.
