What you do is to take a chance. Dare to be outgoing and talkative in one situation. When you receive positive feedback, you will become more confident. And then you will take another chance and another chance. It will become very easy before you know it. Give it a try.

Well, it sounds like you depend on the alcohol to lower your inhibitions that you normally have. While all things in moderation would normally be considered okay, in this case, you are using the drinks as a crutch, and therefore not being your true self. You need to understand what reasons you have for being shy and reluctant to socialize, and then work through those issues. Basically, have confidence in yourself that people will like you as much as they do after a few drinks, when you are not drinking. You could end up becoming dependent on the alcohol, and end up abusing it. Alcohol is fine in moderation, but the body builds up a tolerance, and the more you rely on it to move your inhibitions to the side, the close you come to becoming dependent and abusing it. Be careful, and have the courage to be your self without relying on anything other than your natural charms to overcome your shyness. Good luck to you.

I'm in the same situation as you are. Lack of confidence is always my problem. Once I drink I no longer care what others think, so I open up and become very outgoing. It's much easier said than done, but it comes down to controlling a social situation instead of a situation controlling you.
