When people say things like:
"I knew I was gay when I was 5 and I found out Barbara Streisand cancelled her concert and I cried for a week"

"I knew I was gay when I was 8 and all the other girls did ballet and all I wanted was to play on the football team"

Grr...it's just stereotypes!!!! Maybe you just liked Barbara Streisand! It doesn't mean you are gay!!

Haha, you're funny..
And yes, I hate stereotypes, but it doesnt bother me when people say that...
If they do it 24/7 then I'd probably get a little pissed..
I'm gay and I do not listen to Barbara Streisand and never wanted to do ballet... ever..

Well, Streisand is just annoying, I don't think she's gay-- and what does a 5-yr-old who knows nothing about sex have to do with Streisand?
I think I know what you're getting at, and I'll get right to the point. A person is NOT born GAY. It is a decision to accept that lifestyle. I have heard a number of stories where a person will say something like "Why do people treat me differently? Well, it must because they think I'm gay. Well, maybe they're right" BINGO-- there you go. Decision made. Then, sadly, many of these individuals will come back and say "I was born this way". BULL----!!!!

yes it is a bit annoying when people FALSELY perptuate stereotypes in their own lives.

But at the same time stereotypes only happen when a number of people give the same impression and for some it might well be a true impression of that person.

The real problem is people who stereotype OTHERS based on ther own narrow experiences with a particular group

HAHA-- You're very right! When it comes to things like Barbara Streisand and stuff, it's hard to know if everyone actually likes her by chance, or if some people feel like they need to like her to fit into gay "requirements."

I knew I was gay before I was even in school because I only thought about other boys and never girls. I wanted to see what they had. I could care less what they have now (as long as it is not a female sexual organ), I just like men in general.

We are all different & thank-god we are, otherwise we would find it hard to have friends & most of all lover's.It comes down to the way we were influenced growing up.what we so,do,hear are major factors on the sort of people we become. For instance,if you love a song & play it for a friend who has not heard it then this person will like or hate it,hence this person will be influenced to purchase the next song & like the artist.

I wouldn't find it annoying...

I'd find it..."mildly interesting..."

I'm a hetero male...'

And when I first saw the movie "What's Up Doc?" when I was 5...I wanted to kiss Barbara Streisand...she had really big lips, and I thought she was a babe...

(I was...and still am at age 43...a lecherous little devil...)

Just not so little anymore...

So I think that was an early indication of my sexual orientation...facts like that don't annoy me when people confess them...

To Future Teacher:
Humans are animals, and sexuality of all kinds is innately biological in all animals. Therefore it's only a matter of time before we discover the genetic component to being Gay in humans. The closest animal relative to humans are Bonobo chimps, who often have same-sex pairings.
Please educate yourself by reading Joan Roughgarden's Evolution's Rainbow or Biological Exuberance by Bruce Bagemihl. Groups like NARTH don't reflect reality.

I don't understand how people can say they knew. I never thought about boys until I was in 7th grade or so. These must've been some incredibly horny little 5 year olds!
