It is most often used to refer specifically to the visual arts, including mediums such as painting, sculpture, and printmaking. Aesthetics is the branch of philosophy which considers art.


Beauty is commonly defined as a characteristic present in a person, place, object or idea that provides a perceptual experience of pleasure, meaning or satisfaction to the mind or to the eyes, arising from sensory manifestations such as a shape, color, personality, sound, design or rhythm.

We shall attempt an answer to these questions by a study of the nature of the experience of beauty. Hence we have numerous so-called theories of beauty, each theory calling attention to one of its component ingredients, and disregarding, more or less, the other constituents. It is this condition that has given rise in the minds of the uncritical to the notion that aestheticians contradict each other, and hence, that beauty is indefinable.
