the answer is YES...conditionally. In order to be eligible for any Wal*Mart holiday pay, you need to have completed your 90 day probation, and also either work that day, the day before, or the day after. Then they will pro-rate the holiday pay and only pay you the AVERAGE number of hours for the holiday that you worked per day in the past year. If your average daily hours are 7.5, for example, regardless of reason, that's how many holiday hours you will receive, in addition to hours actually worked that day, if any. HOWEVER, unlike Target, which pays time and a half for holiday hours worked, Wal*Mart is cheap and only pays straight time for hours worked on ANY holiday. They pay six holidays a year: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. NO PAY FOR EASTER. Supercenters are open 364 days a year, 24 hours a day and only close 36 hours a year...that is from 6 PM Christmas Eve, to 6 AM December 26th. They are open on Easter Sunday and Thanksgiving Day. As you may have guessed, I used to work for a Wal*Mart Super Center.

Prosecute you? look, I am not a lawyer, but I DO know someone that works at Wal-Mart. If it is more than 20$, the money will come out of that clerks paycheck. So, you may not be prosecuted for it (if you don't get caught, of course) but you ARE stealing from the clerk AND the store. Also, the service counter has about 5 cameras on it. The checks are cashed through Check Systems, so they will know at which time the overpayment had occured. They will then go over th tapes to see what you look like. Then they will wait til you come back in, or they will simply get the check (Check Systems, remeber?) and find you that way. Either way, you knew at the time the clerk counted the money out (which will definately be on tape), or you knew when you got home. The point is that this posting proves that there is an ethical dilemma in you. Think of your family, and the family of the clerk who works at wal-mart. They are probably strapped for cash too. Lastly, my wife works at a bank, and when their ATM gave out 400$ instead of 40$, the camera recorded who it was, and police arrested that person. They gave the money back, and the bank did not press charges. I doubt you will get such an offer from Wal-Mart.

Walmart does not observe Christmas as a payed holiday. They close Christmas but to get payed you must use a vacation day. If I had a way to attach a picture here I could send a picture of a sign posted at the time clock with those instructions. Looks like when we shop there we support slavery.

Mike is correct with one exception. You do not have to work the day before, of, or after the holiday if you are not scheduled to work.

You DO need to work your shifts the day before, of, and after that you are scheduled to work or you will not receive your holiday pay.

Moral of the story, don't call in sick to celebrate a holiday and then expect to get the pay for it.

You have to work BOTH your Scheduled Day Before, and the Schedule Day After the holiday, if you were not scheduled that day. Trying to extend your vacation by calling in sick forfeits the bonus. I don't think that applies if you are scheduled the day of the holiday, but it might.

You must work the day before, during or after. Ive done shifts where i was off the day before and the holiday(4th of July) and still got my pay. Cause i worked the day after. I rarely work on 4th of July only did it twice.
