What a hot button issue - no pun intended.
The most recent issue of Discover Magazine hypothesizes that global warming is a naturally occurring phenomenon, and that our Sun is actually responsible. Further, that global warming is in fact beneficial . It is proven to be cyclical and appears that we are simply going through another cycle in earths constant warming and cooling process.
Regardless if man has contributed to the problem or not, we owe it to ourselves to try and contain our effects as much as possible. The most logical solution would seem to be curtailing the use of fossil fuels.
That said, many contend that there is no solution to global warming, so stay out of the sun!

The solutions to global warming start with simple logic. Can we prevent the sources of global warming, or correct the effects after the fact? The usual truism is that preventing a problem is generally easier and less expensive then trying to cure it. So, we should ask what causes global warming. These would be industrial activities that produce gases and particulates in the atmosphere as well as emissions from the world's ever growing fleet of passenger vehicles. We've had relatively good results from asking industrial manufacturers to install scrubbers and filters. We've had less effective results from asking individuals to reduce their emissions either by maintaining their vehicles in peak condition, by reducing the number of trips they make (car-pooling, taking mass transportation, or by planning trips to avoid wasted driving) or by buying more efficient vehicles. The last option is exciting, because as very fuel efficient vehicles and hybrids become more available - and as the existing less efficient vehicles age and die - more people will have no choice but to switch.
One word of concern though: I lived through these same discussions during the 1970's and ultimately people went back to their gas-guzzling ways. Oh, if we'd only learned our lesson back then, where would we be now?!

before I would do a project on global warming I would ask my teacher to prove that global warming exists. Here's the catch, you can't prove it does. At this point it's all speculation, so before I did a project for my teacher about solutions to global warming I would want my teacher to recognize that global warming is not a fact, it's a theory.

I've heard some of the "solutions" to global warming, and in all cases, the cure seems to be worse than the problem. And I mean crazy ideas, like dumping even more pollution into the air so less sunlight can get through to the planet. Personally, I think the best way to go for humanity to survive warming is to learn to adapt to it instead of trying to stop it.

If you wish to receive grant money for climate research, do you think that you'll get a cheque if you say," I need the grant, as I think that I can prove that the figures that the current paradigm is based upon are wrong" ? The great environmentalist, David Bellamy, has been silenced, and refused airtime. There is still no proven causative link between the amount of Co2 in the atmosphere, and an increase in global temperatures. The WWWF photographs of the polar bears swimming were taken in the Arctic summer; when the ice cap partially melts, as they couldn't get up to photograph in the winter. The ice was too thick! The East-Anglian uni research figures. "Oh! The figures don't match our expectations. Oh well. Keep quiet. Because we know that we are right." When the belief, and the faith is more important than squarely facing the legitimate doubts of a lot of non grant-supported scientists, science has been superceded by religious zealots. As Oliver Cromwell colourfully said." I pray thee, in the bowels of Christ, consider that thou mayest be wrong."
